MELconnx Project
Critical underground infrastructure for Perth’s rail expansion.
The MELconnx Alliance between Laing O’Rourke and the Public Transport Authority delivered the over $1 billion contract to design and construct the METRONET Morley–Ellenbrook Line — 21 kilometres of new rail and five new stations, and Perth’s largest public transport project since the Mandurah Line in 2006.
Working directly with Laing O’Rourke, C&S Drainage Contractors delivered the drainage package across the rail corridor: complete excavation and pipe installation, drainage pit construction and integration with existing networks. We also installed the MCR (Main Communications Route) cable routes and pits — the secure underground pathways for rail signalling and communications supporting Perth’s transition to Communications-Based Train Control — along with sleeve installations for Water Corporation assets crossing the corridor.
Operating inside an active rail corridor, our crews coordinated with multiple contractors, integrated works around bridges, elevated rail and station construction, and delivered every installation to specification and on schedule — maintaining a Zero Harm record throughout. The line now serves five new stations and supports the single largest investment in public transport Perth has seen.
