Gateway WA
Stormwater infrastructure for the Perth Airport and Freight Access Project.
Gateway WA was a $1 billion upgrade of the road network around Perth Airport — at the time, the largest project Main Roads Western Australia had ever undertaken — built to accommodate the expected doubling of passenger air travel and freight movement through Perth’s critical transport hub.
C&S Drainage Contractors undertook the essential stormwater infrastructure at the innovative Roe Highway and Berkshire Road interchange — the first ‘cut-through’ interchange design of its kind in Australia. We designed and installed extensive drainage networks from 300mm to 900mm diameter, placed 500–900mm reinforced concrete pipe to Main Roads WA specifications, and constructed manholes positioned for long-term maintenance access across the interchange footprint.
Located at one of Perth’s busiest transport intersections, the works were delivered while maintaining traffic flow under stringent safety protocols. Our scope was completed on schedule, with the interchange’s drainage fully operational for the project’s completion in March 2016 — and our systems continue to protect this vital freight and passenger link today.
