Reid Highway Upgrade

Main Roads WAPerth northern corridorCompleted 2016
Overview

Four kilometres of drainage under a live highway transformation.

Delivered under a $65 million design and construct contract and completed in December 2016, the Reid Highway upgrade widened 4.2km of Perth’s northern east–west corridor between Marmion Avenue and Erindale Road — adding a new bridge over Mitchell Freeway and a grade-separated interchange at Malaga Drive.

C&S Drainage Contractors delivered the drainage infrastructure supporting the project’s most significant engineering features. We installed 4 kilometres of Main Roads WA-specified drainage in pipe sizes from 300mm to 900mm, engineered around the new bridges at Malaga Drive and Marmion Avenue — complex stormwater systems handling runoff from elevated roadways, installed to precise alignment and grade within bridge foundation constraints.

With more than 30,000 vehicles a day east of the freeway and 21,200 to the west, the corridor never stopped moving. Staged construction, advanced traffic management and rapid installation techniques kept the highway open while our crews built the systems that continue to drain this critical freight and commuter route today.
