Scarborough Re-Development

Overview

Essential drainage beneath Perth’s iconic beachfront transformation.

The $57.4 million Scarborough Beach redevelopment converted a carpark-dominated foreshore into one of Australia’s most iconic urban beach destinations. Georgiou was awarded the works in January 2017, redeveloping the public domain between Manning Street and Brighton Road — and C&S Drainage Contractors was entrusted with the drainage infrastructure underpinning the Beach Hub, one of the four key precincts alongside the Clocktower, Scarborough Square and Sunset Hill.

Our scope tied new stormwater lines into the existing network with precise connections to existing pits, raised pit lids to the new finish levels across the redeveloped beachfront, and installed stormwater traps on in-situ strip footings incorporating modern water-quality treatment. All of it was built in sandy coastal soils, with protection of existing vegetation and dune systems and coordination with coastal erosion management throughout.

Completed in December 2017, the redevelopment has been recognised nationally — the Planning Institute of Australia noted how the plan “realigned the foreshore, reshaped core infrastructure, and created new landmark amenities” — and the precinct now targets more than 700,000 new visitors by 2041. Our drainage systems work quietly beneath all of it.
